Gabe Atkinson

Mr. Elbert Alford “Gabe” Atkinson, 85, died Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Vickers Personal Care Home in Starkville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 8th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Haggard and Rev. Scott Broughton officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Weir Cemetery in Weir, MS. Mr. Atkinson was born January 6, 1930, in Alabama. He graduated from Weir High School, and was a retired contractor, having owned Atkinson Construction Company. He was a Mason and a member of Campground United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Crick Atkinson; and his parents, Elvie Alford and William E. Atkinson. He is survived by a daughter, Renee Atkinson Edwards, of Louisville; a son, Bobby (Janice) Atkinson of Starkville; step-sons, Dennis Dale Dempsey and Robert Lamar Dempsey, both of Louisville, and Randle Dempsey of Homewood, IL; a sister, Nancy Henson of Ackerman; 13 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bradley Atkinson, Kenny King, Tommy King, Jerry Blake, Keith Atkinson, David Smith, Kenny Wilson, and Richard Barksdale. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
