Barbara Davis Woodward

Mrs. Barbara Ann Davis Woodward, 82, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, April 28th, at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Bob Schwanebeck and Dr. Heath Cross officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara was born March 27, 1943, in Louisville, MS, to Elizabeth Bruner and Henry Steven Davis, Sr. She was a graduate of Louisville High School. She attended MSCW and graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in education. She taught elementary school for over 27 years. Barbara was especially proud of taking an under achieving student and helping them reach their full potential. She was very caring and loved helping others in need. Barbara was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was very active in all ministries of the church. She was also very active in the community, having been involved with the Junior Auxiliary Club, Louisville Garden Club, the DAR, and many other organizations. Barbara loved her family and friends and loved spending time with all of them. She loved to cook great meals and entertain her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Betty Davis McGee.

She is survived by her husband, John James “Johnny” Woodward, Jr.; her sons, John Woodward of Louisville, and Dr. Davis (Haley) Woodward of Hattiesburg, MS; a brother, Henry Steven (Sharon) Davis, Jr. of Conway, AR; and two grandchildren, John Davis Woodward, and Anna Kate Woodward.

Pallbearers will be John Davis Woodward, Scott Woodward, Doug Woodward, Haden McGee, Mason McGee, and Cason Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill McGee, Mark Woodward, Brett Davis, Nate Woodward, Kyle Blatchford, and George Henry Hughes.

The family would like to thank the staff at Louisville Healthcare, Winston Medical Center, Oktibbeha County Hospital ICU and Dr. Dustin Gentry for the care they provided.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 844 South Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
