Funeral services for Mr. Donnie Edward Hollis will be held at Porter Funeral Home of Louisville, MS on Tuesday, July 23rd at 3:00 P.M. with Bro. Charles Rook officiating. Burial will be in Louisville, MS at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the service time at the funeral home. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Donnie Edward Hollis, 71, passed away on July 22, 2019, at Louisville Healthcare in Louisville, MS. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Hollis of Louisville, MS; his daughter, LeNisha (Scotty) Tanner of Ethel, MS; his granddaughter, Emerald Barrett of Florence, AL; his three sisters, Barbara Ferkich Self, Cora Lee Brown, and Wanda Guess; and a host of family members which he loved very much. Mr. Hollis was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Hollis Baker; his father, Milton O. Hollis; his half-brother, George Johnson; and three of his sisters, Sylvia Hollis Roach, Amy Sue Hollis, and Elizabeth Hollis Eaves. Mr. Hollis was born in Mt. Pleasant, TX to his parents, Milton Oakley Hollis and Margaret Hollis Baker. He spent a big portion of his youth in Mt. Pleasant, TX, Louisville, MS, and in Columbia, MS. Upon turning 18 he joined the United States Army. Mr. Hollis was a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned 2 Purple Hearts, and a Bronze Star. He earned his associate degree at Meridian Junior College. He worked hard all his life at places such as The City of Meridian and Meridian Machine Works in Meridian, MS, and McDermott Oil Company in New Orleans, LA. After moving to Louisville, MS, he worked for King Metal Building, owned and operated a local gas station, worked as a welder at Taylor Machine Works, and retired after 17 years as Supervisor over the boiler room at Georgia Pacific. Mr. Hollis was a man of his word and believed with all his heart that his word was his bond and anyone that knew him, knew this. Mr. Hollis’ hobbies included wood working, rebuilding automobiles, repairing tractors, welding, and reading Louis L ‘Amour westerns. He loved being the handy man to help the elderly in his community, or anyone in need for that matter. Mr. Hollis loved being on the open road with his wife as they traveled the United States on their Honda Goldwing Trike. He and Glenda would take rides up to the Natchez Trace with their friends. Some of their fondest memories together included trips out west where they camped in Yellowstone National Park, visited Mount Rushmore, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Clark, Wendell Eaves, Doug Gregory, Reed Ross, Kaden Stanley, and Jamie Flake. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Eaves, Danny Marlin Sullivan, Jeff Flake, Bobby White, Tommy Jenkins, Duane Culpepper, Jerry Nance, Danny Hill, Reggie Hill, and Robert Oswalt. The family requests that memorials be made to the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Glenda Thomas, 215 Thomas Rd, Louisville, MS 39339. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Louisville Healthcare, Sta-Home Health, Sta-Home Hospice, and Dr. Michael Ard for all the wonderful care that they provided for Donnie during his illness.
