Mrs. Jewell Childs Hill, 95, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at her home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 11th, at Murphy Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs and Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Murphy Creek Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jewell was born September 15, 1927, in Louisville, MS, to Irene Watson and Ernest B. Childs, Sr. She helped raise many children in Winston County over the years, especially many on Bond Road and was affectionately known as Grandma, Aunt Jewell, or Mama Jewell by many. Jewell enjoyed cooking and every gathering was always centered around a huge, delicious meal. She hosted many a family reunion over the years and her home was always open to everyone. Until recently, she was still cooking Sunday lunch for her family, and it was always enough to feed the whole Bond community. Jewell was a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church, and she loved her church family and was so appreciative, as was her family, for the love shown to her, especially over the last few years. Jewell dearly loved her grandchildren and her great grands and always asked to see new pictures when she couldn’t see them in person. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. D. Hill; her parents; her sisters, Loreen Fulcher and Erlene McQuinn; and her brothers, Ernest B. Childs, Jr. and Randolph Childs. She is survived by her son, Quinton (Diane) Hill of Louisville; her daughter, Janet (Tom) White of Louisville; a brother, Jack (Lillian) Childs of Duncanville, TX; sisters, Elaine Childs of Houston, TX, and Anne (Larry) Bailey of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Lindsey (Patrick) Warner, Jeremy (Olivia) Hill, and Kelsey White; four great grandchildren, Brynn Warner, Nora Kate Warner, Jack Hill, and Molly Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hill, Patrick Warner, Steve Fulcher, Dale Fulcher, Bruce Fulcher, Ronnie Jones, Carter Lane Jones, and Trent Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Fulcher, Mike Childs, Fred Howard Childs, Ricky Miller, Bill Stewart, Junior Stewart, Freddy Fulcher, Mike Bouchillon, and Perry Hindman. Memorials may be made to the Murphy Creek Cemetery Fund, or Mississippi Children’s Home or Canopy Children’s Solutions, P. O. Box 1078, Jackson, MS, 39215-1078.
