Mr. Meredith E. Matthews, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at his home in Louisville  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 3rd, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Tim Horton officiating.  Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.  and MOnday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Meredith was  born February 27, 1931, in Finley, TN, to M. E. Matthews, Sr. and Kathlyn Klutts.  He was a graduate of Ackerman High School, and graduated with a B.S. in Business from Mississippi State University.  He was a certified metallurgist from metallurgy school at Murray State University and was on a basketball scholarship.  He retired from Illinois Central Railroad as depot/telegraph agent; was Production Control Manager for Taylor Machine Works; and also worked with Bellwood Industries, Georgia Pacific, was a substitute teacher for the Louisville Municipal School District, was adjunct professor for Midsouth Business School, and worked at D & T Services.  He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher and BTU director.  He was a former Louisville Cub Scout Leader, past president of the Louisville Lions Club, former member of the Winston County Saddle Club, Little Britches Assn., and Farm Bureau.   He served for 4 years in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Rockwall transport ship as the radioman.  He received the Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and was named Lion of the Year.  Meredith never met a stranger and spent hours in Wal-Mart, not shopping, but talking. Meredith is survived by the love of his life, Annie Pearl Hodge Matthews, who he would have been married to for 67 years in July. He is also survived by three children, Edward Louis “Eddie” (Veda Ann) Matthews; Kathy (Pete) Reynolds, and Patricia (Mike) Stokes; four grandchildren, Alicia Miller, Meredith Matthews, Matthew Reynolds, and Trevor (Christi) Stokes; three great grandchildren, Jordan Miller, Lani Stokes, and Ty Stokes; and  a nephew, Glenn (Brenda) Taylor.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Jewell Taylor. Pallbearers are Pruitt Woodall, Bennett Woodall, Checky Herrington, Richie Norris, Thad Merritt, Glenn Taylor, and Carl Hogue .
