Steve Cagle

March 14, 1945 — July 18, 2019

Stephen Gage Cagle, 74, passed away at Winston County Nursing Home on Thursday, July 18, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 22nd, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Tom Potter officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is  in charge of arrangements.  Steve was born on May 14, 1945, in Louisville, MS.   He was a graduate of Louisville High School, and was a lifelong and faithful member of First  Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Adult 5 Sunday School Class. Louisville lost a special fellow yesterday with his passing. Steve was an icon on Main Street. With his dog trailing behind him, he made the rounds most every day from his  house on North Columbus Avenue.  You might not get the punch line, but Steve had a new joke for you every day.  His routine including circling through downtown Louisville, with regular stops at Jerry’s Flowers, the post office, Citizen’s Bank, Tabor Drugs, and the courthouse, among many others.  He had friends up and down main street. No matter what was happening in town, Steve had to make it home in time for Jeopardy. He was a whiz at the game. He took a few falls in town as age caught up with him.  His body wore out and eventually his family moved him to the nursing home for skilled care.  He left us yesterday. He’s healed and happy. Probably sharing a good joke with Jesus while surrounded by his favorite dogs,  Rags, Ossie, and Snowball.  He will be missed. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Fleda Gage Cagle; a sister, Sara Crawford, and a brother, James F. Cagle. He is survived by two sisters, Rebecca Carson of Louisville, and Dorothy McDaniel of Marion, Arkansas; nieces, Beverly Lasster, Becky Doyle, Chris Dunn, and Cheryl Werstler ; a nephew, Joe McDaniel; several great nieces and nephews, and many friends. Pallbearers will be Joe McDaniel, Randy Hill, Steve Quinn, Jerry McCullough, Jyles Eaves, and Speedy Calvert . Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Adult 5 Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 2523 North State Street, Jackson, MS, 39216. To sign the guest register please visit www.porterfuneralhome.net.
